Are you feeling swamped by the amount of information at your fingertips?
Me too. I spent the first few years of my career out of residency (2017-2019) sitting on the beach and trying to figure out what was most important to my patients. I tried ice bathing and nasal breathing and free diving and deuterium-depleted dieting and all kinds of other things. And that was just within those two years. I just turned 34 - I have tried new and different health hacks and habits every year since I first fell down the rabbit-hole of wellness in my teenage years.
I wake up now to multiple emails from marketers, bloggers, and “experts” in the health and wellness space, and even I feel overwhelmed by misinformation, disinformation, and marketing schlock. This is largely because the world has never been as sick as it is now, so there has never been more demand for information on how to be healthy and there have never been such high stakes (financial rewards, etc.) for providing people with this information. I write in the hopes of providing you with concise recommendations that are clear and actionable, without overwhelming you. This is why I don’t write as much as many other doctors. That, and I am busy seeing patients (apply for consultation here).
I have limited time for writing, and I want to use it as best I can to help you understand how to be healthy. So what would you like me to write more about?
Thank you for your responses.
Be well,
Dr. Stillman
Dear Dr. Stillman
the most important thing right now is to support each other in pushing back against fascism. Every single person needs to be helped to make their voice heard and to find the courage to say no to what's coming down the road. Because otherwise we are just putting band aids on mental and physical health. Even a so-called integrative practitioner recently proposed puting me on benzodiazapenes for "hypervigilance! well excuse me , but this is a perfectly normal response to feelings of powerlessness in the face of powers that be that would harm us and the children. What's not normal would be looking at one's shoes and pretending it's not happening. The one who is going to survive is the one who sees the lion , at first fears it, then does something to protect themselves and the children.
