In January, 2024, Jim Laird and I will be holding a retreat in Nicaragua in a location we are considering as a future site for a wellness center. If you’re surprised to hear “Nicaragua” and “wellness center” in the same sentence, then you should come to our webinar this Saturday, at 11 AM Eastern, to learn more about what we’re planning and why we’re considering Nicaragua. We’ll be discussing what to expect on our retreat, why we love vacationing in Nicaragua, and what our vision of a world-class wellness center is.
I had a conversation with a VC on the beach in Acapulco in February. He asked me, "what would a world-class wellness center look like?"
Let's start by asking, what are the most powerful healing forces in this world?
Sunlight.
Spring water rich in magnesium and low in fluoride.
Darkness and quiet at night.
Wholesome food, raised in a way that husbands the land, rather than depleting it.
The electromagnetic field of the earth.
The ocean and the foods that grow in it (iodine, omega 3's, etc).
Love. Call it empathy, compassion, or forgiveness - love heals.
A place of healing must incorporate these things. There has to be space, with lots of trees, water, quiet, and, of course, sunlight. I think it should be on or near a working farm. I think it should have lodging for both short (weekend) and long (weeks or months) visits.
It would be a cross between a bed and breakfast, a medical center, a gym, a wellness retreat, and a med-spa.
I'll be traveling to Master Mantak Chia's Tao Garden in April. I'll spend about seven or eight days studying chi kung, meditation, and traditional Chinese medicine. I'll be contemplating what to incorporate from Tao Garden into the wellness center I am planning on building.
The biggest problem with most high-ticket, high-class wellness centers is that they don't address the fundamentals adequately. They waste their time with fancy tricks, and then their patients wonder why they didn't get better. Or, if they do get better, why they don't stay better.
It's not a mystery to me.
Here's what I think a world-class wellness center should include:
- A working farm with acreage, so we can produce all of our own food
- A medical clinic with state-of-the-art natural and integrative medicine, including IV therapy
- Spaces for yoga, meditation, chi kung, tai chi, and more
- A state-of-the-art gym
- Massage, acupuncture, manual therapy, and more
- Pools, hot tubs, cold plunges, steam rooms, sauna, and more
- Lodging, both short and long term
I'm contemplating where to build such a center. A lot of that will come down to funding.
I'm hosting a retreat in Nicaragua in January of 2024, at Gran Pacifica, where Jim Laird is building a gym right next to one of the best beaches in the world. There's a good chance I'll build my wellness center down there, right next to the gym.
We’re holding a webinar this Saturday at 10 AM to explain why we’re thinking about building a wellness center in Nicaragua. We’ll also talk about the retreat and explain the value of spending a week with us in a tropical paradise. Register for the webinar today!
What do you think a world-class wellness center should look like? Where do you think it should be? Post your thoughts in the comments. And definitely come to our webinar this Saturday - you won't want to miss it.
