Uncensored Q+A: Mold, Hormones, Detox

Plus Why Some Protocols Fail and What Actually Turns Cases Around

In this week’s Q&A, I focused on the issues I see driving most chronic symptoms today. Mold toxicity that goes undiagnosed. Hormone therapies that behave differently than people expect. Detox strategies that work for some and fail for others. And the metabolic patterns that explain why standard protocols stop working. These are the conversations that actually help you understand what is going on in your body and why you may not be improving.

When Core Protocols Don’t Work

I opened this session with a case from the practice that surprised even me. A patient came in with two priorities. Weight loss and improving elevated glucose. We used the standard protocols. Vitamin C. MSM. Iodine. The usual mineral balancing based on hair and blood work. And her labs got worse.

When that happens I immediately start looking for what the lab work is actually telling me. In this case it pointed toward hidden triggers rather than a failure of the physiology to respond. We ordered a new allergy panel that has been performing extremely well in the practice. She eliminated the reactive foods. We paused some of the supplements. And we trialed chlorine dioxide. Her glucose dropped from the high one nineties into the one twenties in three weeks. That is the magnitude of a GLP one drug without the price tag or the side effects.

Not everyone responds to chlorine dioxide. Some people feel nothing. Some have intense detox reactions. But when it works it can work incredibly well. I suspect it is oxidizing and neutralizing toxins that are disrupting metabolic pathways. The point is not that chlorine dioxide is a cure all. The point is that when a foundational protocol fails you must assume there is something upstream blocking the response. Environment. Food sensitivities. Toxin load. These are central drivers of chronic metabolic dysfunction.

Systemic Absorption

One question that comes up constantly is whether vaginal estradiol has systemic effects. The answer depends entirely on dose. Low doses used strictly for local symptoms like dryness or atrophy have minimal systemic activity. Higher doses absolutely enter circulation and produce broader physiologic effects. This is why location of application matters and why we avoid areas near breast tissue. Hormone therapy only works well when it is used with precision. Dose. Location. Timing. That is what determines whether it is local or systemic.

Environmental Toxicity

Mold illness is one of the biggest obstacles to recovery that I see in the practice. People spend years and tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to get better while living in buildings that keep making them sick. If you are in a moldy home the first and most important step is leaving the home. You cannot out supplement a toxic environment. It does not work.

Testing is helpful when it is used to document the problem and identify the source. I prefer the ERMI and HERTSMI tests. Once you confirm exposure the priority is to remove yourself from it. Recovery begins the moment the exposure ends. And if you leave the building and feel no better then you look for a second mold exposure or another toxin in the environment. I once had a patient excreting ten times the normal level of barium. That case forced me to revisit everything. When symptoms do not match the expected timeline you look for zebras.

The hardest part for most people is letting go of expectations. Your dream home may become the reason you are sick. And the fastest way forward is to do what you can with what you have where you are. Sometimes that means tents. Vans. Sleeping outdoors. Moving temporarily. It is not ideal. But neither is staying sick.

Supplement Strategy

People often ask whether binders like zeolite or fulvic minerals are safe or necessary. My concern with zeolite is aluminum contamination because few companies can demonstrate that their product is free of bioavailable aluminum. That does not mean it never works. Colleagues in mineral balancing get good results with it. I simply have not found it necessary because our existing protocols already produce strong outcomes.

Detox in my world begins with supporting physiology directly. Dr Stillman’s detox powder. Vitamin C. MSM. Iodine. Light exposure. Nutritional and mineral balance. LifeWave patches like X39 and glutathione can also be powerful tools. These open up the detox capacity of the body rather than forcing one narrow biochemical pathway. People with mold toxicity often notice dramatic relief with these supports. But again everything depends on removing the exposure.

Labs Testing

A common theme in the Q and A was how to interpret testing. Organic acid testing is valuable because it reveals functional impairments in B vitamin pathways, mitochondrial transport systems, toxin markers and more. What it does not reliably show is mold burden. Mold tests in general often fail to correlate with symptoms because the toxins may be sequestered in tissue and not circulating.

Heavy metal testing requires careful interpretation and ideally repetition to validate results. I routinely test myself in triplicate with different provocation methods to make sure I trust the data. If you do not test your tests you do not know what they mean.

Diagnosing autoimmune patterns with conventional markers is often unhelpful early on. What I look at most closely in chronic immune cases are bilirubin and albumin. Elevated bilirubin in particular points toward impaired bile flow and toxin accumulation which is one of the biggest upstream drivers of autoimmune physiology.

Neurology Fatigue and Parkinson’s

We closed with questions about Parkinson’s and neurodegenerative conditions. The mistake people make is treating the diagnosis as the process. The process is what matters. Tremor. Cognitive slowing. Loss of gait stability. These arise from the same root causes that drive every chronic illness. Metabolic imbalance. Toxicity. Infection. In many cases the labels obscure what is actually going wrong.

Can symptoms improve? Yes. Sometimes dramatically. I have seen high dose thiamine move the needle in ways that look like remission. LifeWave patches can help. Mineral balancing. Vitamin C. Detox support. This is not about finding a cure. It is about restoring the physiology that keeps the nervous system functioning.

Practical Nutrition and Daily Living

The most reliable meal template we use in the practice is simple. A substantial protein portion. Two fists of roots or starches to drive potassium and energy. Two fists of vegetables. Half an ounce to an ounce of nuts or seeds. Rotating foods increases nutritional diversity and supports better mineral patterns. It also prevents the fatty acid imbalances that appear when people rely heavily on one nut or seed.

Final Thoughts

The themes this week were clear. Protocols fail when the environment overwhelms the physiology. Hormones behave differently depending on dose location and context. Mold is an unforgiving trigger and must be addressed directly. Detox must support the body not override it. Testing must be interpreted with nuance. And chronic neurological patterns respond when you restore the foundations.
