Weight loss is tied with fatigue for the number 1 priority of my patients. Everyone wants to lose weight. Everyone is worried about gaining more of it.
And this is a major problem that requires a shift in mindset to fix.
Jim Laird and I will be hosting a webinar on weight loss the last weekend of May. You can register here. There will be an exclusive and time-sensitive offer to work with me AND get labs done during the webinar. The last time we held a webinar like this (for thyroid problems back in February), we sold out within the first hour. People are raving about the thyroid program we gave them and I am sure you are going to love what we've come up with for weight loss. Jim and I also made this quick video on the top 5 weight loss mistakes that are ruining your health. I encourage you to watch it here.
My friend Brian Richards over at SaunaSpace is hosting a give-away of one of his Photon lights (these are amazing - I can't say enough good things about them!) to one of the webinar registrants, so make sure to register.
The biggest misconception most people have about weight loss is that it is about exactly that - weight loss.
The truth is that you don't (or shouldn't) care what the scale says or what your BMI calculates out to. You should care about how you look and how you feel. Most people don't like looking "fat" and most people don't "feel" good when they are overweight.
What if you could lose dress sizes or inches off your waist, but GAIN weight? The truth is that you can look AND feel better by gaining weight, rather than losing it.
Instead of thinking about "weight loss," think about "body composition optimization."
Women generally want to look more fertile. The vulgar term for this is "sexy." This means:
- Adding muscle mass to their lower legs, particularly in the hips, thighs, and buttocks
- Losing abdominal fat
- Gaining abdominal muscle
What women don't realize is MORE important than the above are:
- Building bone underneath muscle, so they don’t turn into brittle old women
- Improving movement variability to prevent injuries, falls, and deconditioning
- Optimizing hormonal balance between androgens, estrogens, and stress hormones (cortisol and aldosterone)
Men want to look stronger and more masculine, which means:
- Larger muscles throughout the back and chest
- A trimmer waist
- Stronger legs, whether this means burning fat off of the legs or putting on muscle
Losing weight isn’t about losing weight. It’s about gaining muscle, burning fat, and improving how you look and feel, regardless of what the scale says.
Throw out your scale. It’s really just an instrument of psychological warfare.
If you want to find out our secrets for body composition optimization, make sure to register for the webinar. In the meantime, make sure to check out our top 5 mistakes video here.
I hope to see you at the webinar!
Until next time, be well,
Dr. Stillman
