I am (for the most part) not a fan of multi-vitamins. Most multi-vitamins are loaded with nutrients you don't need or that are downright hazardous. Iron and copper, for starters, which are a disaster for most people, particularly as supplements.
More than that, I've found that people need and deserve customized supplementation protocols. You are not all the same. Trying to make a multi-vitamin for everyone, even broad swathes of the population like "men over 50" is challenging, if not impossible. I suppose that for some it is better than nothing, but I am obsessed with precision medicine that is tailored and personalized to the individual. That means getting to know you, your lifestyle, your goals, and your biochemistry.
Real food always trumps supplements. It is commonly said in the natural/integrative medical world that, "you can't out-supplement a bad diet."
Smoothies are one of my favorite ways to get my nutrition. They are not, for the record, a good option if you are trying to lose weight. They are an excellent way to start the day and get a big jump on your nutrition.
A daily smoothie is a much better option to maintain and optimize your nutrition than a multivitamin. I created this smoothie recipe to help people get the nutrients they need quickly and efficiently each day.
